It was a competitive game where you try to dominate the opposing teams by collecting cards that could influence the game in your favor.
With the right skills, you could get out of the last division and climb the ranks.

FIFA World was the sort of game that blended together elements from traditional football games with some interesting RPG elements and was overall a very enjoyable experience. The game had high-quality gameplay, stellar visuals, and a really solid community backing it up. FIFA World was a great MMO adaptation of the game and was definitely worth a shot.
As you started off in FIFA World for the first time, you were asked to select a team of preference. You were able to select any team you'd like and used this team to play in the tutorial match that came next. The tutorial phase of FIFA World was very nicely implemented as you played an entire match that was built solely to help you get the hang of things in the game. The tutorial did a great job of covering everything you needed to know about the game, so by the end of it, you had a firm grasp of all the controls and key mechanics of the game.
The core objective in the game was pretty simple. You started off small and were placed in the very last division and had to climb the ranks by giving displays of superior skills. Throughout your play-through, you also upgraded your team by acquiring higher-level players that affected your team dynamic in a really positive way.
Heading into the gameplay, FIFA World's gameplay was based on that in FIFA 14, but in some aspects, it was toned down a little to be more accessible to a wider community due to lag issues and whatnot. You found that the game played out almost exactly like FIFA 14, and in some cases, the engine was even refined a bit further to provide a much smoother gameplay experience. The bottom line was to expect the very same high-quality gameplay of a FIFA game that had been refined a bit further but fell short in terms of variety, such as the absence of high-level skill moves.
The defining feature of FIFA World was perhaps the collectible cards feature. There were multitudes of different cards in the game that you could get your hands on, and each card had a unique effect of its own. Some cards boosted the stats of a player, some cards could be used to rejuvenate their stamina so that they could immediately step back on the field, and other than this, there were a ton of other cards, all with unique effects on the game, which gave the gameplay a whole new level of depth.
From a graphical standpoint, FIFA World looked fantastic. The game had an incredible amount of detail, and the player designs were extremely spot-on. All other visual aspects of the game, such as weather effects and the crowd, etc., were also executed brilliantly and looked great. All of these things were amplified even further by the extremely smooth and crisp animations of the game.
As for micro-transactions, FIFA World allowed you to buy FIFA bucks for real-world money, which was basically the main currency of the game. FIFA bucks could be used to purchase things like card packs from the in-game store, which gave you a chance to acquire high-quality players such as Lionel Messi since they couldn't be obtained through regular methods.
All things considered, FIFA World was a superb adaptation of the traditional FIFA experience within an MMO format and was definitely capable of keeping anyone busy for hours upon hours.
Unfortunately, FIFA World, along with other prominent EA free-to-play titles, went offline on 14 July 2015. According to the statement released at that time, EA was quoted as saying that they "just didn't have the momentum to bring the game to a full commercial launch".
